A Gift for Anna




 


My niece, Anna, had a birthday at the end of October, for her present, she requested a new hat. After I made her the hat, I made another (due to the fact that I didn't write down the pattern), then made my sister stand out in the cold to have her picture taken.  Thank you Ellie!



A cozy knit, this soft squishy cabled hat is a quick project to make.


Materials:

1 skein Lionbrand Heartland, color Yosimite
Size US 8 double pointed needles
Size US 8 16 inch circular needles
Cable Needle
Marker

Finished Measurements

Height: 9 inches
Circumference: 22 inches

Gauge: 20 stitches by 20 rows = 4 inches in cable pattern

Abbreviations:
k: knit
p: purl
m1: make a stitch
1x1 rib: knit one stitch, then purl the next, repeat k1,p1 across the entire row.
C4F: Slip 2 stitches onto the cable needle and hold at the front of the work, knit 2, knit 2 from cable needle.
 k2t: knit 2 stitches together






Instructions:
CO 76

Join in the round, placing marker between the first and the last stitches.

Rows 1-5 :1x1 rib

Cable Pattern:

Row 1: [C4F, p2] Repeat from [ to ] until there are 10 stitches before the marker.  [C4F, p1, m1] 2x (there should now be 78total stitches)

Row 2: [k4, p2] around the row

Row 3: as row 2

Row 4: as row 2

Row 5: [C4F, p2] around the row

Row 6: as row 2

Row 7: as row 2

Row 8: as row 2

Repeat rows 5-8 five more times.

Decreases:

Change to double pointed needles when needed.

Row 1: [k 4, k2t] repeat round row

Row 2: k

Row 3: [k 3, k2t] repeat round row

Row 4: k

Row 5: [k 2, k2t] repeat round row

Row 6: k

Row 7: [k1, k2t] repeat round row

Row 8: k

Row 9:[ k2t] around the row

Break yarn leaving a long tail.  thread the yarn through all the remaining stitches, pull tightly, weave in ends.
