A Turquoise Scarf for the Summer

I started making a scarf last year at the beach, I love knitting at the beach.  However, the summer was waning and fall knitting was beckoning which left the half finished summer scarf in my yarn tub.  Fast forward nine months and the summer scarf began to call my name.  With my needles steadily clicking while my daughter was taking dance classes, I finished what has become my favorite scarf to date.  Originally I called it my yoga scarf, except I will never wear it to yoga, I come out of there way to sweaty.  I'm thinking that a summer turquoise scarf is probably more accurate, even if it doesn't sound as good.

Made with Spray by Scholler+Stahl, in turquoise, this scarf starts at point, widens, then tapers to another point.  The scarf is then picked up along a yarn over edge, from there a thin mesh panel is added before a lace edging finishes the garment.  This is very similar to my Lorene's Christmas Scarf.

For my fellow chart lovers:

I made 23 1/2 repeats of the pattern ending on row 12 then binding off.  Block the garment to desired measurements, I found it easiest to block in a circle.

I love this drape of this scarf!

A special thanks to my lovely sister in law, Leslie, taking pictures for me!

Please excuse any grammatical errors, I am blogging with a migraine.

  4. Hi Karly, this is a beautiful pattern! I just started it in a lovely yellow before realizing I don't understand the mesh panel steps. Do I pick up a row with the yarn overs and then do rows 1 and 2 or do I perform row 1 as I'm picking the stitches up?
    Thank you so much!

  5. HI! Great question! I'm sorry if the instructions weren't clear! You pick up the yarn overs (while yarning over between each picked up loop,) THEN you do rows 1 & 2. Hope this helps! Please feel free to ask more questions if need be.
    Take Care!

thank you for the pattern! i get the picking up loops and yarn over part. i don't understand rows 1 and 2 with the asterisks/ double asterisk. what is the pattern that i am repeating for these two rows? thanks! -dina

  7. Sorry it wasn't clear! It just means to repeat what is in the asterisks across the row. With row one (and two) you knit the first stitch, then yo, k2t, yo, k2t , continuing to yo then kt2 all the way across the row. Hope this helps!

    1. 16 for the lace edging? You will knit row 1 of the lace edging across the 16 stitches. Your last stitch will be a ssk, which will attach the lace edge to the main body of the shawl. Does that help?

  10. Thanks so so much! Love this shawl. I, too, suffer from the same allergy and migraines. I love to knit but it is hard to find alternative yarn in a small town. I will definitely follow you for great ideas!

  11. This is gorgeous -- thanks so much! The size is perfect--wish I'd seen this before I got all my yarn for making Christmas presents. But there's always next year. :)

  12. As Spray by Schiller and Stahl is no longer available, can you tell me the yardage of that yarn ? I see three balls are required.

I will assume that whatever replacement yarn is selected, the needle size indicated for that is the size to knit this pattern.

    Thanks
